young Iranian actress heading to Hollywood has been banned from travelling, according to a report from Iran's official news agency.

Golshifteh Farahani was at the Tehran airport heading to the U.S. when she was stopped by authorities, an unnamed official told IRNA.

The 25-year-old, who began her acting career as a child, is a popular performer in Iran after having appeared both on the stage and in a number of films, including the award-winning movie Half Moon by Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi and M for Mother, which was Iran's official Oscar submission for the best foreign language film category in 2007.

However, there is speculation that it is her latest film — she has a role in Ridley Scott's upcoming Hollywood thriller Body of Lies — that is to blame for her travel ban.

I just think it is utterly nonsense to ban her from traveling.
