Absolutely correct it was influenced by other languages. However, the way it is set, regarding words, we didn't actually lose our own either. For example:

The "Esgh" is an Arabic word for love, commonly used in modern day Farsi. However, we also have the word "Mehr", which is pure Parsi. So Farsi never lost it's language, it only added additional vocabulary to it, which consisted of near another 40% of Arabic. Plus also a little from other countries such as Turkey, yet, still remained to keep its own language throughout.

Another example is our language being influenced by other languages and yet still having influence on others is are these:

The Word Heart in Arabic is "Ghalb", yet Farsi uses this word as well, then also has it's own word "Del". But the word Del is used in other languages, which has come out of Farsi, such as Dari. Yet Dari pronuciation is "Dil". And the Language Urdu uses this word, due to it Farsi roots. So from Farsi to Dari, then into Urdu, this word still exists.

Urdu itself is known as a Poetic language, due to it's origin. With a 60% of words within it language, orgininating from Farsi, proncounced with a Dari dialect, due to its location on the Iranian Plateau.

I dont think Urdu has its roots in Persian. Its Indian. On my Persian course there have been 2 Pakistani girls who have attempted to come along and learn the language. Both of them spoke Urdu but neither could understand a word of Persian/Farsi. The structure of their language is totally different and i think saying that 60% of their words come from Persian is a huge-overstatement so i dunno where you got that from - Both of them dropped out after only one term,

Haha, don't know bout those grls doin ur course, they must of been just a bit dopey!! lol!! Theres loads of word they use. I can think of loads straight away. They have in Urdu this system of saying the beginning part of the word, like French. Compared to Farsi, farsi say the word as a whole, same as english, see's it and says it as it's written. The word is the altered yet again, due to accent and Afghani dialect, from yet again its orgin. So they don't pronouce the word exactly like an Iranian would say it in Farsi. For example:

Del is pronouced as Dil. They say the "E" as an "I". It's a really fasinating language to learn about.

I found this information of about Urdu. Its gives more of a better insight about the langauge.

Reza,

Some Indian languages have Persian words in them because they were ruled for a long time by Persian-speaking Muslims like the Moghals. In a way its like how Persian has many Arabic words in it because the Arabs ruled Iran for a couple of centuries. Its not just that but also because of the influence Persian poetry once had on neighbouring peoples and on Islamic literature. That's why languages like Turkish and some Indian languages use a lot of Persian words.

As for those girls in my class. One dropped out after only a couple of lesson. The other one completed one term, but then never came back. You're right about their accents tho, they couldn't pronounce simple sounding words and tried to speak Persian like they were speaking their own language which was funny at times.

Persian doesnt havent 40% Arabic in it, its more like 20%...... But Urdu itself is 30% Persian.... Dari IS A PERSIAN LANGUAGE, and has more Persian words then the new farsi we use in Iran.....There are atleast 20 Persian dialects and sub-dialects... PAhlavi (middle Persian) and DAri being the Father and mother languages of all Persian languages.
