I'm interested in learning pure Parsi words (words that have been "replaced" by arabic, turkish, etc. ). So please, if you know some Parsi words not in use much anymore post them in this thread! Today I found out that the word "mobarak" we say at birthdays, Nowrouz etc. is an arabic word. The Parsi word is khojaste! So instead of saying "tavaloted mobarak" to a person you can say "tavaloted khojaste bad" :-) Let's make this thread a dictionary of pure Parsi words :-)

eshgh is a word that is taken from arabic... the parsi word for love is "mehr"

so when you want to say I love you... instead of saying asheghetam, you'd say, mehr mivarzam.

Julio, aka Pouya told me that the word 'kalame' (kalame = word) is arabic. The Parsi word is vazhehaye

here's a couple obvious ones...

khodahafez=bedrood,

khanoom=banoo,

khoob=neek

i'll try and think of more... i have some parsi friends that speak parsi (old parsi) and it's so cute hearing them talk (kind of funny too... )

Another one, 'ketab' is arabic. The Parsi word is 'name', as in 'Shahname', 'Daneshname', etc. 'Name' also means 'the best' :-)

Yes, Parsi az in zoroastrian parsi, but the parsi's i'm sure you know are a group that left iran a LONG time ago, and migrated to India... and have lived there ever since. So while they are also fluent in hindi, they speak parsi VERY close to the original... like if she were to say hi to me, she'd say dorood bar shoma Meraj banoo jan. (a much longer version of what we're used to saying)

Yes I know that! That sounds so beautiful  I know a lot of "abstract" words in arabic but I don't know the Parsi words for them. I'll make a list and post them, maybe people know them in Parsi. Now you're talking about 'banoo' I know that 'shahbanoo' obviously means 'the King's wife' or 'the lady of the King' instead of the arabic 'malake'
